Bebop Spoken There

Steve Coleman: ''If you don't keep learning, your mind slows down. Use it or lose it''. (DownBeat, January 2025).

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

What a delightful set by Roly. First time I've heard him sing , thouroughly enjoyed it.
He reminds me of an American guitarists /singer who's name I can't recall but I think played the corner house way back when..
Thanks Roly for putting it together.

Yes, really delightful, and I've just heard part 1 so far. Looking forward to the others. I was singing along as Roly is singing at my pitch.

And this, folks, is why Roly is, for me at least, the best guitarist/accompanist around. Quality and class.

Well Done Roly. How the heck do you get better as you grow a little older.

Hello Ron, Ann, Steve and Alan. Thanks for such nice comments. Best wishes. Roly

Include me in there too Roly. I think we both agree that the guy Ron was referring to was Marty Grosz. Praise doesn't come much higher!

Thanks Lance. Yes Ron, if it was Marty Grosz I was there. He sang, played pure acoustic rhythm and told some great anecdotes. I see from Wikipedia he is 90 now.
