Bebop Spoken There

Abbie Finn: "Even though there's a lot of great work being done to promote women in jazz, I still come up against some attitudes! I pulled up at a recording session with my drums in the car and the studio owner said, 'I'm sorry, this space is reserved for the drummer!'" - (Jazzwise April 2023).

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

The Strictly Smokin' Big Band included Be Bop Spoken Here (sic) in their 5 Favourite Jazz Blogs.

Paul Edis Livestream #20 - July 31

Paul Edis (piano).

The twentieth and final - for the time being - Paul Edis Friday lunchtime set began with When Your Lover Has Gone which perhaps may have been more appropriate for the closer as, of course, we all do love these sessions madly.

A trip to Brazil for Summer Samba tied in nicely with the weather outside maybe summer is icumen in!

Breathing, a delightful waltz from Paul's  book of original compositions (published today - see earlier post) that more or less validates the praise I gave in my review.

Tony Eales is never far away when requests are read out and this week Poinciana was his choice. A tune more associated with big bands - Kenton did a killer version - and yet in the hands of a player such as P.E it proved to be more than adaptable.

Another request, this time from our man Russell for Un Poco Loco which isn't a bar on Leazes Park Rd., Newcastle, but a boppy/Latin tune by Bud Powell.

As Time Goes By was written by Herman Hupfield who also wrote another great sentimental ballad - When Yuba Plays the Rhumba on the Tuba!

A family request for Bill Withers' Lean on Me followed by another original - Sunny Blue

Teach me Tonight is one of the songs from the latter days of the songbook era but no less a lovely tune - our man wouldn't have picked it if it wasn't!

Bobby Hebb's Sunny took us into the home straight although I always associate the tune with Georgie Fame.

Finally, in this, Charlie Parker's centennial year, what more appropriate than Anthropology to finish off with?

Enjoy your break Paul but don't be staycationing too long!
Lance
