This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Lokkhi Terra live stream from Ronnie Scott's - Feb. 8

Ronnie Scott’s The #lockdownsessions continued with Kishon Khan’s “Lokkhi Terra” where Havana meets Lagos in London to produce a Cuban-Afrobeat experience. The whole performance (close to 90 minutes) was totally invigorating, and of the hundreds of the virtual audience, I’m sure many were dancing in their kitchens/living rooms/etc. as the music flowed.  

This is not a full review, the music speaks for itself when you watch the performance on Ronnie’s YouTube page.  What was noteworthy, aside from the overall positive responses for the band and their overall sound, were the number of comments around ‘the Brass Section’ ie Thurgur and Flowers who obviously made a big impression with their solos.  These were really magnificent, and well worthy of the label ‘Brass Section’ despite there only being two members!  Overall, a great sound, great music and great band.

This was a fantastic funky ride. Not sure about upright dancing, but I was certainly wiggling about on my chair while I was watching. The groovy mix of Afro and Cuban beats, with those Sufi Samba rhythms, was utterly intoxicating!
