Last night's session at Kansas Smitty's featured Adrian Cox playing the music of Baby Dodds, this afternoon our clarinetist turned his attention to Jelly Roll Morton. Once again, Cox took the opportunity to live stream from Toulouse Lautrec.
The Wolverine Blues featured last night and again at one o'clock today. Cox can holler a blues when the mood takes him, at ten past the hour it took him, cue Buddy Bolden's Blues. A Morton rag, Frog-I-More, illustrated Morton's and Cox's versatility. From a 1926 recording, The Pearls, a request for Black Bottom Stomp, another request, Winin' Boy Blues with vocals. Tune after tune, Cox convinces every time. Time for one more, again, a request, Don't You Leave Me Here with more of Cox's winning vocals. Next week it's the music of Edmond Hall.
