(Press release)

This Sunday Jazz North East will be presenting the first in a series of co-promotions working with Jazz Coop at The Globe. We have two concerts to come this month with more to be announced very soon. All events will be live streamed with limited socially distanced tickets available wherever possible.

We hope that you can join us for the Leeds based Quintet Wandering Monster and later in the month our very own John Pope Quintet.

Wandering Monster
Sunday 7th February 2021 at 8:00pm
Live streaming from The Globe Newcastle

Described as thoughtful, energetic, serpentine, embryonic, boisterous, episodic and nuanced, Wandering Monster reach beyond what may be expected from the tried and tested line-up of the tenor saxophone / guitar quintet. The group showcase their love for world music, rock and metal whilst continuously trying to learn from the trailblazers of Black American music and improvised music. These influences result in a sound that is intense and raucous, yet dynamic, sensitive, spontaneous and intellectual.
The band’s eponymous debut album was released in 2019 on Ubuntu Music to much critical acclaim. 2020 saw the release of double A side ‘Metropolis / Division’ in which the outfit continued to blend the performance of involved written material with exciting collective improvisation.

“…really rather brilliant” Roger Thomas- BBC Music Magazine

“This may be their debut album, but there’s a maturity and generosity in each other’s musical company that makes Wandering Monster just a little special” Andy Robson- Jazzwise

Buy a ticket and you will be sent an email containing a link to download a pdf file with information on how to view the livestream. You can also download the pdf file by clicking ‘Return to Merchant’ immediately after you have paid. You can watch the gig live and at any time during the following week.

Please note that you should receive two emails when you complete your order: one from PayPal and one from this website. It is the one from The Globe that has the link you need. If you don’t see our email please check your spam/junk folder. If there is nothing there please email or send a message to our Facebook page .
A livestream ticket costs £7.50. You may like to pay more if you are feeling generous or if there is more than one person watching.  This would be really welcome at this difficult time when income for musicians and venues is drastically reduced.
