Ray Harley has just given me the sad news that Gene Jarred has left us. Trumpet player and big band leader Gene was, by all accounts, one of Teesside's jazz legends. I never met him, although we were Facebook friends and his occasional emails and F/b comments somehow made me feel that I knew him - can't say that about all of my F/b 'friends'!
I wish I could write more but I'm going to appeal to those 'down there' who knew Gene personally to help me out with details of Gene's life and, sadly, funeral arrangements.
RIP.

Funeral for Gene is Friday 31st May at Emmanuel Church Saltburn at 11.30, followed by private cremation and then for refreshments at saltburn golf club

I was introduced to Gene's music by an odd route but I loved his playing immediately and he will be so missed.

Hi, I am Gene's youngest daughter, Joanne, Dad's story in music covered 70 years so it's going to be hard to put it into just a few words without it turning into an autobiography. If I may post after the funeral I can give you his full story, in the meantime there is an obituary in the Evening Gazette (Teesside area) today which does cover a lot of detail. Dad loved music, all kinds - that said whenever he was in hospital or at the doctors and when asked if he was allergic to anything his standard answer was 'Country and Western Music' - this I believe stolen from Buddy Rich!
