This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Ubuntu Music Signs Tenor Sax Titan Paul Booth

This is great news indeed! Ignoring the fact that most jazz folk in the northeast consider Paul to be the number one tenor saxophonist in the UK, if not further afield, the fact that a jazz committed label such as Ubuntu has the same vision offers comfort to us who wonder why he isn't up there as a contender. Truth is, touring the world with Stevie Winwood and company pays the mortgage but, perhaps takes him out of the jazz limelight.

Now, at last, we're going to hear Paul in the setting where his heart lies - a small group such as he worked with when he first burst upon the Newcastle scene as a precocious teenager blowing a tenor sax that I sold him - little thinking that, in years to come, my status could be compared to the guy who sold Trane his first sax!* 
I've long voted for Paul in the various polls but, not for any reasons of parochial pride, otherwise, why would I also be a champion of a well known Grecian tenor saxist ? 

No, Paul is one helluva tenor player which is why this new recording is well worth waiting for with baited breath - hurry up August.
