Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Bad luck brings new jazz opportunities

(Press release)
Unfortunately, two of the bands we had lined up in the next two weeks have had to cancel or postpone their performances due to illness and accident. It is bad luck but it has given us the opportunity to bring new jazz to the Globe to fill the gaps.
On Sunday 14 April Sudden Jazz Quintet will be playing instead of Big Muddy. The quintet was very well received when it performed in a similar situation earlier this year.
On Thursday 18 April the JR Trio will be standing in for the Francis Tulip Quintet. These guys are some of the best young jazz musicians from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
We rely on people coming to gigs and buying drinks to keep Jazz.Coop running, so we would really appreciate your attendance at these replacement gigs.
Also in April, we have:
Thursday 11 April - Indigo Jazz Voices
Showcase for jazz vocalists accompanied by a superb trio

Wednesday 17 April - Old Tom presents Harry Gallagher
Local poet and performer leads a night of songs, poems and laughter

Sunday 28 April - Blue Jazz Quintet
Long established mainstream jazz combo

Tuesday 30 April - International Jazz Day
Party to celebrate the fifth anniversary of Jazz.Coop buying the Globe.

Our regular jam sessions continue with the monthly Am Jam and More Jam and the weekly Take It To The Bridge.
The Globe, 11 Railway St., Newcastle NE4 7AD.
