This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. There'll be Some Changes Made @ The Caff

Following 5 success filled years running live music at the Jazz Café, Newcastle Arts Centre has decided to change the layout and make better use of the 3 venues housed there.
The Jazz Café with its comprehensive bar and food service will move from the current location to larger more accessible space within the Arts Centre itself.  Our Black Swan Venue will continue to run the Jazz Café music programme which will have the benefit of a much greater capacity, lift access and a more extensive bar offering.

This move links all aspects of the Centre together with a social space at its heart. This is a big step forward providing both a social and cultural hub only 100 metres from the Central Station.
The Pink Lane site will close its doors at the end of October for a refit and will operate under new management as Prohibition Cabaret Bar to open in January 2019. All in all, an exciting and positive New Year for both organisations.

Although not a sentimentalist it is a really sad day to see such a significant change . I suppose when Keith sadly passed away we were fortunate that Newcastle Arts Centre stepped up to the plate and kept the venue open and maintained Keith's legacy of hosting Jazz at the Pink Lane Club.

Whilst they made cosmetic changes the spirit of Keith remained prevalent within the Cafe To move it and to open a new style venue [from the name I am expecting some sort of Speakeasy feel and wonder if the people who opened Prohibition in Gateshead Railway arches are involved ] is tinged with a great deal of sadness . The positive outcome is we still have a venue to host all aspects of Jazz no great distance from the original lets hope the feel of the old club remains.
