This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Either side of this golden period Alfred Lion's company promoted hot jazz from
its inception in 1939 into the forties later embracing seventies soul jazz
artists. Iconic designs adorned LP covers, often with Francis Wolff's evocative
photography. Now, eight decades on, with a coincidental resurgent market in
vinyl, Blue Note 80 is a reissue series of some of those albums you once owned
or perhaps wished you had. Visit your local specialist dealer - they are out
there - and place your order!

Good to see Blue Note thriving. I cherish my original pieces of vinyl such as Dexter Gordon, Art Blakey, Lee Morgan etc. just as I do the many Blue Note CDs I've acquired. If you're not a vinyl buff then CD versions of the original Blue Notes can usually be picked up for around a fiver or less!
