This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. RIP Eddie Bert

One of the ever fewer jazz legends remaining - trombonist Eddie Bert - died on September 28. A player who worked in the bands of Kenton, Herman and Goodman - to name but some - Bert also recorded with Monk, Mingus and a host of others. There aren't many left from his era, an era which just happened to encompass the years from his birth in 1922 to as recently as 12 months back when he finally hung out his slide to dry.
Eddie Bert was 90 year old.

His memorial tribute will be on Dec. 17th at St. Peter's in NYC at 7pm
There will be lots of great jazz musician playing for him.
