This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. RIP Big Jim Sullivan.

The man was a legend - played with just about every pop star from the sixties onwards reputedly providing the often anonymous backing to over a 1000 chart singles and, in case you're wondering what he's doing here, look out for his 3 CD set The Big Jim Sullivan Trio plays jazz from The Jazz Café released in 2004. 
Or read what Martin Taylor wrote on F/B today - Just got a phone call with the sad news that my dear friend Big Jim Sullivan has passed. A true guitar legend who will be missed by us all.

My personal recollection is of Big Jim doing a Fender clinic at a Newcastle Music Store and hearing a few stories afterwards that would be ill-timed to repeat here.
Big Jim was 71 and will be sadly missed by a lot of guitarists - check out the F/B response that is already filling up rapidly with comments!
