This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. The Sunday Service with Adrian Cox & Joe Webb - Nov.15

Sunday, one o'clock, Toulouse Lautrec Jazz Club. Adrian and Joe, excellent! In the frame today were Barney Bigard, Johnny Dodds, Benny Goodman and Albert Nicholas. Straight in with Careless Love, Adrian taking a first, early vocal. Superb. There you go, Joe said Adrian leaving the stage to pianist Joe Webb. Yeah, Joe said an appreciative Adrian. Ol' Man River (showcasing Nicholas) taken at a jaunty gallop with Adrian playing a Selmer 9 Star today as his regular instrument is presently with the clarinet doctor. The change in instrument made no difference, Adrian continued to play flawlessly, as on New Orleans. 

Another tune with Nicholas...Old Fashioned Love featuring another vocal from our man. Avalon (one for the Goodman fans out there). Moonglow (more BG, swooping like the King of Swing) and more...What a Little Moonlight Can Do featuring great piano playing from Joe, the solo of the afternoon!  A request of Joe's, Cocktails for Two (comp. Johnston/Coslow) and onto Johnny Dodds...a request for After You've Gone (Adrian's vocal!) and Someday Sweetheart (another vocal and more of Joe's marvellous piano playing). And so to the final tune...One for the Club. It had been another great session with more than one hundred viewing the live stream. More next week.
