Count Basie Exhibition in Red Bank

Lydia Diel, a dear friend of mine who, like myself, attended Jarrow Central School - albeit in different years -  knowing of my jazz interests kindly sent me a cutting from the Asbury Park Press regarding a Count Basie exhibition in the town of his birth, Red Bank, New Jersey. Lydia, who lives nearby, took this photo of myself outside the theatre that bears his name when I stayed with her a few years back.

Unfortunately, the article is spread over a couple of broadsheet pages so I'm unable to scan it. However, there is an informative trailer giving an insight into the exhibition - link

Thank you Lydia, if I visit NJ again or you return to Jarrow we'll crack open a bottle of wine!

A Love Letter to Count Basie. From the Great Migration to the Harlem Renaissance is at the T.Thomas Fortune  and Cultural Center, 94 Drs. James Parker Blvd., Red Bank.
