On Sunday afternoon the north east of England's jazz scene featured not once, not twice but three times across the airwaves. A Jazz Record Requests' listener from 'down south' asked to hear Piron's New Orleans Orchestra playing West Indies Blues from December 1923 as small consolation for missing out on his annual pilgrimage to Whitley Bay to attend this year's sadly postponed Mike Durham's International Classic Jazz Party.
Little more than an hour later Gary Hogg's Geordie Hour (Radio Tyneside) played Tell Liza 'bout Me (good choice!) from the House of the Black Gardenia's recently released new album The New Lowdown and, within the hour, Mike Dixon's Jazz Time programme on Aycliffe Radio repeated part two of Paul Edis' introductory survey looking at the history of jazz.
