This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Evan Christopher & Don Vappie live streaming from Chickie Wah Wah, New Orleans - Dec. 12

Don Vappie began by apologising for the frequency of the stop-start gremlins, it was going to be one of those freeze-frame nights. The format appeared to be: play a tune then some conversation between the principals, Evan Christopher and Don Vappie, then play another tune. Look for the Silver Lining is more or less where we came in...how appropriate, live streams are what they are, make the best of them! 

Clarinetist Christopher addressed an international audience, in so doing acknowledging how dumb Americans must appear to observers from around the globe looking in on the recent presidential election race, swiftly adding he was hopeful things will soon take a turn for the better. 

Our principals rightly showered praise on bassist Amina M. Scott - great sound, great feel. Constant interruptions to sound and vision made it almost impossible to watch the performance, such a shame. An hour or so later, this most interrupted of live streams came to an end with I Love You (comp. Thompson & Archer) from 1923. A great set, or should that be probably a great set?!                               Russell
