This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Another chance to hear Dave Brubeck - Dec 4

At 7:30 tonight on Radio 3 there is 'another chance to hear' Dave Brubeck in concert at the Royal Festival Hall. First broadcast in 1992, this repeat comes in the centenary year of the American pianist's birth. Indeed, today's date - December 4 - marks, almost to the day, the date of Brubeck's birth, Dec 6, and death, Dec 5, one day short of his 92nd birthday.

The London concert features Bill Smith (clarinet), Jack Six (bass) and Randy Jones (drums). Brubeck's quartet is joined by son Matthew (cello) in a set of some of Dave Brubeck's many compositions (including In Your Own Sweet Way) together with Howard Brubeck's Theme for June, Paul Desmond's familiar Take Five and WC Handy's St Louis Blues.
