Given the number of times these guys clock-in at Smitty's you could be excused for thinking It would be just another day at the office for them.
As if!
This was yet another outstanding gig. I don't think tonight was themed unless the theme was how to kick a non A-list tenor player's butt back into the woodshed! Harper did all that whilst, at the same time, causing me to wonder why I haven't got a shelf full of his albums!
I didn't catch all the titles - I was busy juggling several posts and streams and CDs whilst thinking what to write about a book I'm currently reading and enjoying immensely...
A couple of Trane's for starters - Impressions, Big Nick and possibly a third which I recognised but didn't identify (and nor did Alec). Autumn in New York proved that the tenor-man had a mellow side to him before putting the boot in again on Herbie's One Finger Snap.
Needless to say the three Wills were wonderful. Piano perfect, bass beautiful and drums dynamic! Lance
