This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. An Ellington Big Band Special - Sunday at seven

Tony Eales, a long-standing friend of BSH, got in touch to remind us that the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra can be heard this evening playing Duke Ellington on BBC Radio 2. The Beeb's much missed Big Band Special recorded the show way back in 2005. This evening, as part of October's Black History Month celebrations, Sunday Night is Music Night will once again broadcast the event billed Black, Brown & Beige: The Music of Duke Ellington. Pianist Wayne Marshall conducts the orchestra with singer Kim Cresswell taking a starring role. Tune in at seven o'clock.

Looks good but the David Gray Flextet at The Globe tonight looks even better. Always good to support a new band especially in a live situation.
I have the feeling tonight at The Globe is going to be rather special - as indeed it has for the past few Sundays (and the next few).
