This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. What is there left for me to say? I said it all after hearing the band at The Globe on Sunday night!* It was a great session then and it's a great session now. Hopefully, anyone who missed that session - or any of the other gigs on the tour - will be catching up and realising they are in the virtual presence of greatness.

Strangely, I've never been that fussed about jazz on television - it always seems so contrived - whereas these live streams whether from Ronnie's, The Globe or somebody's bedroom invariably come across as more natural. You really do feel you're sitting in the front row which all adds to the ambiance.

Being a tribute to Wes Montgomery, the tunes were, with some exceptions and in revised order, more or less what we heard on Sunday and none the worse for that. You don't buy a record to play it only once which is in effect what happens at a normal gig. This way you can relive it whilst retaining the live experience.

There may have been more in the live audience tonight but the Clapometer definitely swung in the direction of The Globe - they won hands down!
