This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. News from Peter Jones

HELLO! Quite a lot going on in the run-up to Christmas, as you can see.

First of all, my band Zoöphyte will be releasing an EP of 4 fabulous new pop-jazz tracks in early November. Keep an eye on our Bandcamp page to listen.

Then a couple of weeks later, on Wednesday 18th November, I'll be chairing a panel discussion on music journalism and authorship, beginning with the all-important question: how DO you write about music? It's part of the EFG London Jazz Festival and also the Richmond Literature Festival, and features Radio 3 broadcaster and author Alyn Shipton, chronicler of London's happening young jazz scene Emma Warren, and biographer and drummer Clark Tracey.
Finally, 15th December sees the publication of my new book THIS IS BOP, a biography of the great jazz singer Jon Hendricks. You can find out more about it here.

Although this is a press release it would ill become me not to mention a few words about Peter Jones who is a jazz singer, a jazz writer and an authority on the music he writes about. His previous biography - that of Mark Murphy - should be on the bucket reading list of those who look beyond Frank and Ella. Jon Hendricks is a natural follow-up. Are Dave Lambert, Annie Ross and Babs Gonzalves standing in line - Peter? I'd love to be a witness to the panel discussion on music journalism - some might say that it's not before time that I did - ouch!
