It's hard to keep up, this live stream lark is churning out 'product' at a rate of knots. Rico Tomasso's latest offering at seven o'clock tonight included a virtual link up with Martin Wheatley. The pairing played some Louis and Bix with Martin supplying the banjo and guitar rhythm backing as Rico played the Louis and Bix cornet parts on a few familiar numbers.
Someday You'll Be Sorry required Rico to think on his feet as he first played a chorus a la Armstrong then switching in his head to Beiderbecke's approach on the instrument. Holding a cornet in his hands, Rico said it was the exact same model Bix played almost a century ago - a 1923 Conn Victor. No doubt fellow trumpeters were drooling at the very idea!
Rico said he was slowly but surely getting to grips with the technology in his lockdown world, not least remembering to use the mic when he spoke to his virtual audience! One Facebook friend messaged to say: Don't get too organised! Rico appreciated this saying he liked the spontaneity of just going for it...as he spontaneously took another slurp from what looked like a bottle of Old Speckled Hen.
Rico Tomasso along with a virtual Martin Wheatley will be back tomorrow (Saturday) at 7:00pm. The guys in 'the band' signed off tonight with Ol Man River.
