Bebop Spoken There

Dave Puddy: "Eventually we paid our entrance money [to Eel Pie Island] and fought our way to one of the many bars where we could buy our Newcastle Brown and retire to the back of the heaving dancefloor. There must have been lights somewhere, but my memory remains of being in some dark cavernous wonderland." - (Just Jazz July 2020)

Dave Rempis:Ten years from now, I can see musicians streaming concerts in real time and charging a minimal amount for people to watch.” - (DownBeat September 2013)

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Today

As we all know there are no live gigs taking place in the immediate future. However, any links to jazz streaming that are deemed suitable - i.e. with a professional approach - will be considered for posting.

The Honourable Member, Mr Alan Barnes!

Over the years Alan Barnes has played countless gigs across the north east of England. Readers who've heard the hugely popular Barnes in concert will attest to his talents as a stand-up comic. At one such Jazz North East gig at Newcastle's Corner House - was it in the 80s or 90s? - the multi-reedsman was in fine form, musically, of course, but also with a stream of one-liners and tall stories. One gem in particular had the packed function room in stitches long before the punchline...

The set-up, from memory is a little hazy, nevertheless it went something like this: Last week I was on a gig at the Naturist Foundation. I was chatting to a bloke when he said "Have you read Marx?" "Possibly", I replied, "I've been sitting on that park bench over there".
