This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. A Double Century This Weekend!

In a striking similarity with the frequency of the average British bus service, the New Century Ragtime Orchestra will be appearing twice this weekend after several weeks of waiting!
This Saturday afternoon, 7 October, we're at Darlington Jazz Club, St Augustines Parish Centre, Larchfield Street, Darlington DL3 7TG.  It's a great venue with on-site parking (free) and an on-site bar (less free).  The show starts at 12.30 pm, and tickets are available on the door, which opens at 12 noon - further information is available at www.darlingtonjazz.co.uk.

Then on Sunday evening, 8 October, we're at the Salutation Inn, Lake Road, Ambleside LA22 9BX as part of a 3-day All That Jazz mini festival of classic jazz, also featuring on subsequent days Enrico Tomasso, John Hallam, Keith Nichols, Spats Langham and Nick Ward.  Further information available on 015394 32244 or visit jazz@hotelslakedistruct.com.

The New Century Ragtime Orchestra
This twelve-piece orchestra plays music from the dawn of Ragtime in the 1890’s through to the early Swing Era of the 1930’s.

Lovingly recreated from the original sheet music and painstakingly scored for full ensemble, we perform not only ragtime composers such as Scott Joplin but also the classic jazz and hot dance music of the 1920’s, and the early swing of Duke Ellington.
