RIP Ginny Mancini

Ginny Mancini (nee O' Connor), widow of composer, pianist, arranger Henry Mancini died on October 25 aged 97. The couple met when Ginny (bottom left of picture) was singing and Henry (Hank) playing piano with the Tex Beneke Band in 1946. They remained married until her husband's death in 1994.

Her own career began as a member of the Mel-Tones vocal group led by Mel Tormé and part of the Artie Shaw Band.

Many regard the Mel-Tones as the best ever vocal group and, after listening to their version of What is This Thing Called Love?, it is hard to disagree.

Ginny later went on to become a backing singer in many films and tv shows.
