This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Dean Stockdale Trio @ The Globe, Newcastle - Oct. 10

A tried and tested first set of standards that reminded those who haven't caught Dean's live gigs or streams just how good he and his trio are. I was in the latter category tonight after last night's transport problems - blame it on the bus a no show - so tonight I took up the armchair option rather than having to fork out for another taxi.

Nevertheless, although I am perhaps over familiar with the repertoire, it is always a delight to hear the songbook classics performed so well and with the occasional variation such as In a Sentimental Mood given a Latinish twist and Dean's tight block chord passages on Witchcraft adding some special magic to the old Sinatra hit.

Mick and Abbie gave sound support - both impressing with solos - before the stream went into interval mood and I went to bed with a good book! Live gigs you go to the bar, have a chat then stagger back to your seat. Doesn't work like that with streams - at least not for me. One set streams work best but what do I know?

I'll maybe catch the second set later which, I guess, will be some originals- Lance.
