This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Newcastle Festival of Jazz and Improvised Music 2021: Fergus McCreadie Trio @ The Lit and Phil - Oct. 3

This was the third time I’d seen the Fergus McCreadie Trio and each time I have been more impressed than the time before and, given that I thought they were pretty amazing the first time, it emphasizes just how good this concert really was. 

The trio have been together for a while now and it really showed as they played as a completely harmonious unit. Definitely a ‘European style’ piano trio but with the added feature of a highland twist within the music. The whole performance had a wonderful flowing feel as the momentum built up to a fever pitch before subsiding into poignant, peaceful, passages before winding up again - simply mesmerising.

The audience were transfixed you could have heard a pin drop until a piece ended and then rapturous applause broke out in fact the reception was intense enough to persuade  the band (who had driven down from Scotland that day) to perform an encore at the end of the evening. Steve H
