I struggle to cope with single CDs and, when landed with a triple CD album, I know how the camel felt when that extra straw was added.
So I will be as honest as a politician and confess that I shirked away from my responsibilities and didn't play all three hours of the album - life's too short and I've still got a few million pages of the NUFC/Saudi takeover agreement (the abridged version) to go through - so I opted for disc 3 (Stories) that seemed to have some familiar tunes on it.
I've heard the Swiss guitarist several times over the past few years and there is no escaping his brilliance and creativity even if it doesn't always connect with my (some might say) antiquated views on what jazz is all about. However, his interpretations here are spot him and I could happily listen to this in, say, the Cluny where, in fact, I once did.
This particular part of the package is solo guitar throughout and is the one I would like to see issued without the baggage. Chances are it may be accessible singly via Acne, sorry, I mean Spotify.*
Essential for guitar buffs - a maybe baby for anyone else. Lance.
