Preview: Curtis Stigers @ Sage Gateshead - Nov 5

Pop star turned jazz singer Curtis Stigers is touring his 2017 Concord album One More for the Road and Sage Gateshead is on his itinerary. Early 90s chart success - I Wonder Why - to new century jazz festival engagements, the man from Boise, Idaho works with some of the jazz world's very best practitioners. 

Stigers recorded his Sinatra album with the renowned Danish Radio Big Band and the Nelson Riddle/Billy May arrangements from the mid-60s Sinatra at the Sands recording will provide the inspiration on Monday evening in Sage One. Stigers, together with his top-flight NYC quartet, will interpret the timeless material and it will be interesting to see if he can get near the saloon bar intimacy Sinatra achieved on the biggest concert platforms. 

Stigers' jazz education began in his teens sitting-in at Gene Harris' jam sessions at the Idanha Hotel, Boise. In homage to those days Stigers penned Swingin' Down at Tenth and Main and it is to be hoped that his Sage Gateshead appearance will balance due reverence with a swinging jazz gig performance.
