Meader, perhaps better known as a founding member of the New York Voices, releases this, his second solo project, and it's well worth a punt.
The voice has overtones of Mel Tormé's recordings with Marty Paich plus a suggestion of Jon Hendricks and Mark Murphy - the perfect ingredients for a jazz vocal album.
The aforementioned New York Voices guest on Bill Withers' Lovely Day. Tom Paxton's The Last Thing on my Mind and Lennon & McCartney's All my Loving are given his own interpretation which takes nothing away from the originals whilst still putting Meader's stamp on them.
There's also a couple of his own compositions - Last Call and Gala's Lament - a bossa, Lembra de Min and some choice standards such as: It Could Happen to You; Sondheim's Losing my Mind; Softly, as in a Morning Sunrise; I Hear Music; East of the Sun and The Song is You. I Hear Music is also seamlessly reprised into the latter track
As well as some fine singing he also blows good tenor, reminiscent of Tyneside's Jason Isaacs with the added bonus that he doesn't sing The American Trilogy (sorry Jason, I bet you're knocking 'em dead with it out there in the Caymans - or maybe vice versa!)
