I think about American jazz, British jazz, European jazz and yet, in the latter context I rarely think of Spanish jazz or, to be more precise, Catalonian jazz.
Well that has all changed with this delightful album.
Although the line-up might suggest a Jazz Messengers' blast it is just the opposite. There is a distinctly Spanish feel to the music. It's a bit like holding a jazz festival in the bullring with the good news that the listeners are neither bored nor gored.
Careta, Masters in Jazz Trumpet from Conservatorium van Amsterdam among other studies, has managed to integrate her native roots into the international jazz language creating her own voice (literally) in the process.
The compositions and the arrangements are all her own. The concept is complex (click on graphic left) but well worth checking out via the sites of the various on-line hucksters. Lance
