Nevertheless, the watering hole around the corner had, amongst other temptations, Hobgoblin, a very fine ale, so I settled myself comfortably in a corner with a pint of the same and Bill Bryson's The Lost Continent.*
Like all of Bryson's books this isn't a laugh a page, it's a laugh a sentence! This man is just so perceptive of what's wrong with the world or, in this case, America.
Published in 1989, Donald Trump is mentioned as a developer slowly taking over New York.
However, the line I like most is: "Can there anywhere be a breed of people more irritating and imbecilic as disc jockeys?"
