Most Thursdays, term time, Newcastle University presents a one hour concert featuring some of the institution's many talented music students. This afternoon a familiar face at jam sessions would play a couple of numbers in trio format, later featuring in a four piece rock band. Jacob Egglestone has become something of a fixture at Newcastle Arts Centre's Black Swan jam sessions, in recent months coming to the fore, making some fine contributions. So much so, Jacob is soon to feature in the house rhythm section.
Two tunes, Bill Frisell's take on Shenandoah and the jam session staple There Will Never Be Another You were meat and drink to Jacob, on this occasion ably supported by two fellow students (and jam sessioners) - bassist Jamie Watkins and drummer Bailey Rudd. Be sure to check out Jacob and co at the Black Swan, the free admission sessions are first and third Tuesdays in the month (7:30pm start). Later in the afternoon Jacob turned it up to 11 (ear plugs were offered and declined) as drummer Elle Reid played two original compositions and the Foo Fighters' My Hero. Russell
