This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) The Alice Grace Trio @ St James' & St Basil's Church - September 5

Autumn in Fenham. The sun shone down on the gardens of St James' and St Basil's Church on Fenham Hall Drive in Newcastle as Alice Grace opened her afternoon set with Harold Arlen's Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. Our star vocalist is noted for her attention to detail and her reading of Ted Koehler's lyrics was a delight. 

Autumn in New York (Fenham!), How Insensitive (wholly sensitive!), Blame it on My Youth, one great tune after another and each one found Alice ably supported by two of Tyneside's busiest musicians, Messrs Mark Williams and Paul Grainger, guitar and bass respectively. Given all the possible distractions at an outdoor event, the concert couldn't have gone much better - the sound excellent, volume levels just right, Alice singing as well as ever. 

The final outdoor concert of the season on Sunday 19 September (3:00pm) features Lindsay Hannon and Bradley Johnston. Russell
