Stebbings, as I recall, led a band at a dancehall somewhere up on the West Rd. and later at Gateshead Railway Club. Judging by the attire, I don't think the photo was taken at the latter venue. Lance

Freddy Stebbings led a band at the Heaton Assembly Rooms. I came up in 1975 and never heard him but I recall a comment from another bandleader that he was 'the loudest sax player in the North'. True or not, I have no idea.
Fred used to front the mu band in the Marlboro social club,if George wasn’t there,,,many years later he was mc in a social club morpeth,,,at the end of the night we always played the queen,,,young guy on organ..I don’t know how to play the anthem,,,I went over playing it in C. Fred flies over and said you play it in G. A true story
