This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Picnic

Just watched the old movie classic - Picnic. Not really much in the way of jazz. In fact, the actual picnic scene is like Jazz on a Summer's Day without the jazz or, come to that, any non-caucasians, which is the way it was back then in 1955.

However, the classic dance sequence between William Holden and Kim Novak (neither of whom were known as dancers) showed more sensual chemistry in four minutes than Fred and Ginger did in all of their movies.

They danced to the movie's theme which was cleverly merged with Moonglow and had Stan Wrightsman (piano), George Van Eps (guitar), Phil Stephens (bass) and Nick Fatool (drums) along with some strings providing the soundtrack to this most iconic scene. A magical moment in a sea of dross - Lance

I saw this film when it first came out and I have the DVD which I watch frequently.
One of the all-time great movies.
