The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Wayne Shorter Fundraiser

Steve Andrews has, sadly, brought to my attention this article in the Radio France online magazine France Musique giving details of fundraising concerts to assist saxophone legend Wayne Shorter now 86, with his medical bills.

Incredible that this man has financial woes.
He was indispensable in the Second Great Quintet - the unfortunate joke he was George Coleman's Hip Replacement - increasingly becoming recognised as the greatest jazz group ever assembled; he was co-conspirator in Weather Report, all but universally recognised (alongside Mahavishnu) as the most important Fusion Band of the lot; alongside his highly credible solo work and his contributions as sideman on many seminal albums.
What a crazy upside down world we live in when you consider some of the ludicrous white pop-stars who are multi-millionaires.
