This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Ian Carr on JRR, Geordie (Jazz?) Hour & Aycliffe Radio's Jazz Time

Tune in today to Alyn Shipton's Jazz Record Requests (Radio 3, 4:00pm) to hear a track by Ian Carr's Nucleus. Trumpeter Carr was born in Dumfries and lived on Tyneside for a good few years studying at King's College (now Newcastle University) and, at the same time, alongside brother Mike, establishing the reputation of a quintessentially sixties' British modern jazz group, the EmCee 5.

Gary Hogg's The Geordie Hour on Radio Tyneside (online at www.radiotyneside.co.uk) at five o'clcock could, note could, feature one or two jazz tracks and at 6:00pm Aycliffe Radio (www.ayclifferadio.co.uk) will most definitely feature jazz. Don't switch off if Mike Dixon's Jazz Time programme doesn't start on time, hey, this is jazz, it could start at 6:05 or 6:06 or 6:07 or...
