This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Dom Pipkin: Saturday Piano Truth - June 20

Dom Pipkin (piano/vocal)

The Pipkin parlour appeared to have been transformed into a trendy disco with coloured lights everywhere - even on top of the Steinway! Well maybe it wasn't a Steinway but it was the same colour.

Dom was in good fettle singing and playing that good old barrel house, blues and boogie-woogie which, when skillfully blended, emerges as authentic N'awlins piano - or at least as  authentic as you're gonna get from a professor who hangs out nearer The Thames than the Mississippi.
In the right hands, you close your eyes and you are transported to Louisiana. Dom took us there tonight.

I didn't take notes, I just let the music wash over me like a high tide down on the levee. Enrico Tomasso who'd just finished his own Livestream wandered in - good to see musicians supporting each other.

You can catch Dom again on Wednesday night and next Saturday night.

PS: Facebook, which has been behaving itself of late, blotted its copybook and went into freeze mode so I missed the last ten minutes - naughty Facebook.

Thank you for the review Lance. Yes, we are back once again. - I've performed more than 50 shows from home since March! We are currently on every Wednesday and Sunday evening - 9pm !
