Bebop Spoken There

Dave Puddy: "Eventually we paid our entrance money [to Eel Pie Island] and fought our way to one of the many bars where we could buy our Newcastle Brown and retire to the back of the heaving dancefloor. There must have been lights somewhere, but my memory remains of being in some dark cavernous wonderland." - (Just Jazz July 2020)

Dave Rempis:Ten years from now, I can see musicians streaming concerts in real time and charging a minimal amount for people to watch.” - (DownBeat September 2013)

The Things They Say!

Hudson Music: Lance's "Bebop Spoken Here" is one of the heaviest and most influential jazz blogs in the UK.

Rupert Burley (Dynamic Agency): "BSH just goes from strength to strength".

11,618 (and counting) posts since we started blogging just over 12 years ago. 753 of them this year alone and, so far, 17 this month (July 5).

As we all know there are no live gigs taking place in the immediate future. However, any links to jazz streaming that are deemed suitable - i.e. with a professional approach - will be considered for posting.

Wednesday Night National Youth Jazz Collective Livestream - June 10

Great livestream with Issie Barratt, Mark Lockheart and Nikki Iles talking about the National Youth Jazz Collective.

Issie poses the questions and Nikki and Mark talk about how they got into playing jazz which is quite fascinating particularly as, in their younger days, there wasn't any formal jazz education. They got it from sitting in and playing along to records which, is how most people did in the earlier years.

As the stream gains momentum they talk about composition and, in fact, many things - apart from sealing wax and kings.

Finally, to round off a very enjoyable and informative hour, Nikki was joined by Imogen (second name?) who sang a delightful version of Social Call - on the strength of this I guess it won't be long before the whole world knows her second name!
