This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Big Band Bash all the way from Skegness!

Tony Eales, big band fan and friend of BSH, recommends an online big band programme broadcast weekly on Coastal Sound based in sunny Skegness. Wednesdays at 8:00pm Steve Walker presents Big Band Bash, a two hour programme of all things big band jazz. Walker - trumpeter, arranger and MD - has played with many of the big names and travelled the world in the process. 

A cv boasting stints on the QE2, a trip up the Amazon playing jazz, performing in Hyde Park to a crowd of 45000, regular gigs with the orchestras of Syd Lawrence, Joe Loss and Nelson Riddle, work with Martha Reeves, suggests Middlesbrough-born Walker has 'been there, done that'. Oh, yes, Mr W also finds the time run his Big Swing Band, organise brass band events and work as a peripatetic brass teacher!  

Now, on Coastal Sound (broadcasting since March 2016), Walker (pictured) presents his Wednesday evening show to listeners across Lincolnshire and beyond. The station proclaims it is 'the Best Around'. Tune in next week to hear for yourself - www.coastalsound.co.uk.
