Today's edition of Gary Hogg's Geordie Hour programme featured music by a couple of bands many of Bebop Spoken Here's readers will have heard in concert. Radio Tyneside has been on the go since the fifties as an in-house hospital radio station. Winning numerous awards down the years, the station recently started broadcasting on FM (93.6) and to a worldwide audience via the internet (www.radiotyneside.co.uk).
A recent Facebook lockdown track by the one-and-only Strictly Smokin' Big Band was put together using little more than mobile phones from the safety of band members' homes. The band's take on Route 66 features star vocalist Alice Grace. Hogg said he was impressed with the audio quality! Caroline Irwin can be heard singing John Prine's Let's Talk Dirty in Hawaiian with Keith Stephen's Hot Club Trio and, as the hour long programme neared its end, up popped Chester le Street-based singer Georgia Brown to sing a number accompanied by brother (and former Madonna and Elton John musical associate) Marcus. In recent times pianist Marcus has undertaken adjudicator duties at the annual Great North Big Band Jazz Festival. Today's programme can be heard again on Wednesday (May 13) at 7:00pm.
