This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Hersch, Montague & Taylor

Familiar names pop up across BBC Radio today (Saturday) starting at lunchtime as Soweto Kinch talks Music Life: the influence of Family on the World Service (12:05pm). From his Pennsylvania home pianist Fred Hersch performs an exclusive lockdown session for J to Z (Radio 3, 5:00pm) and at eight o'clock this evening over on Radio 2 Jamie Cullum's at Home Cheltenham Special features music from artists who were scheduled to appear this weekend at the spa town's annual jazz festival. At 9:00pm there is, in classic BBC-speak, another chance to hear Randy Crawford in concert at 2018's Cheltenham Jazz Festival. 


Last, but by no means least, two local lads (that's local to Tyneside) feature on Corey Mwamba's Freeness (midnight, Radio 3). Gateshead guitarist Chris Montague can look forward to hearing a track from his new album hitting the airwaves and Newcastle's improvising pianist Paul Taylor (pictured) contributes a solo piece.
