The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Just Friends @ Dormans Jazz Club, Middlesbrough - Dec. 1

Just Friends stepped in at short notice as guest band providing an evening of excellent Jazz.
A lively start was made with Nat Adderley's Work Song featuring Ian on guitar followed by Sonny Rollins' Doxy, 
A nice version of Have You Met Miss Jones? had great solos from Richie and Dave.
After playing the Benny Golson composition Killer Joe and Duke's In a Sentimental Mood, the first set was brought to a close with St.Thomas. Everyone soloed,  including fine contributions from Alan on bass and Mark on drums. 
The second session started in fine style with the appropriately titled Just Friends and the following numbers included The Way You Look Tonight and God Bless The Child both featuring Richie's excellent sax playing.
The night was then brought to a close with a rousing rendition of Watermelon Man.
It was a pleasure to listen to this group of local musicians who played so well together as the monthly guest band at Dormans Jazz Club.
