(Review by Lance).
As the title implies, this is the third studio outing for Dan Messore's Indigo Kid set up. However, this time around, it's with a different line-up although, still a quartet.
Well, any band that has Gareth Lockrane on flute will do for me whether it's with his own big band or in a small group such as this. Fluting at its finest. Coupled with Messore's playing and compositions, support from Gourlay and Giles it paints indigo as a much brighter colour than Duke's perception of it.
Guitar and flute frequently exchange phrases but not in the traditional, often banal, exchange of fours. Here, the two complement each other sympathetically and often indulge in contrapuntal passages that are a delight to just lie back and wallow in the empathy of the two, or rather four as, without Gourlay and Giles it would be a glass half empty rather than half full.
The eight originals, all by Messore, are well constructed and as varied as the titles suggest.
Con Y Sin; Deconstruction of the City; Earnestly; I've Decided to Sail; Little House; Moment Gone in the Clouds; Monsoon; Mr. Burton.
The first two Indigo sessions were excellent and, with Episode 3, the momentum hasn't slowed down.
