Bebop Spoken There

Ludovic Beier (Django Festival Allstars): ''Manouche means 'free man,' and gypsies have been travelers since they migrated west from India to Europe.'' (DownBeat March, 2026)

The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) North. (M & SSBB on F/book 23/12/24)

Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Interested? then please get in touch. Contact details are on the blog. Look forward to hearing from you. Lance

Hartlepool Loses a Stalwart - RIP Bryn Jones

Paul Skerritt has passed on to me the sad news that Bryn Jones, longtime pianist with the Musicians Unlimited Big Band, died last Friday (September 29).
Apart from his musical ability, Bryn also possessed a rare sense of humour which will be sadly missed by all who knew him.The two photos show him with an early edition of the band and a more recent one.
The funeral will take place on Monday October 9 at St Paul's Church, Hartlepool at 10:30am followed by a gathering at Hartlepool Cricket Club, Park Rd., Hartlepool TS26 0DA.
Bryn, was in his mid-eighties.
May he Rest In Peace.
Lance.
PS: John Nesbitt sent this pic with the message:
Rest well Bryn. Pain gone now.
John also sent a YouTube link to last Sunday's opening number by the band and Mick Donnelly's oration to Bryn.

A wonderful musician and probably the funniest man on the planet. Bryn was an inspiration to me in my formative musical years and made me laugh out loud every time we met. He will be sadly missed.

Thanks for the music and the laughter Bryn.

Just found this site but thank you for the lovely words about my dad. He was a great musician even if I am a bit biased.

Thanks for the kind words Adrian: despite the circumstance, it was a real pleasure to catch up with you at the funeral and have a laugh about the Full Circle days down the Royal.
