This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Not smiling re Smulyan tour.

Gary Smulyan - currently the world's number one baritone player - is touring with the Nigel Price Trio. Sadly the gigs don't seem to pass north of Peterborough.

Hi Lance.
I organised the tour.
I did my best to get more of a national spread but it was at relatively short notice and the clubs in Yorkshire book WAY ahead.
If I'd have managed to land something there then we could have used that as a springboard to head up to your neck of the woods.
Sorry it couldn't work this time round but hopefully next time something like this comes up we'll make it work.

Hi Lance .Gary was in Leeds last year with Tony Faulkners big band.,but got no farther north.Pity its like been in a bit of a jazz wilderness at times.
