The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. RIP Ted Curson.

Ted Curson died yesterday aged 77. North east fans will remember him from a 1987 session at the Corner House, Newcastle with the Billy Harper Trio. The wider public will recall his work with Charlie Mingus. If you were at that Corner House session or if you heard him anywhere in the world let's have your memories.

Sad to hear that Ted Curson passed away--- I remember him at the Corner House very well. A very nice guy who regaled us ,after the gig,with stories of his time with Charlie Mingus. Unfortunately he struggled terribly that night as his "chops" had gone & he apologised to Sid Warren who supported him manfully which allowed him to complete the gig. He was obviously a much better player than his performance on that night suggested--- there were occasional flashes of brilliance--- you do not get to work with Mingus if you were less than world class!!! But I do remember him as a gentleman during that particular period of visiting American trumpeters--- happy days!!!!
