The Things They Say!

This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Rico's Pop-up Louis

There was trumpet royalty in the house tonight in the form of Bruce Adams, Noel Langley and Mike Lovatt - maybe a few others. Ray Gelato requested Sweethearts on Parade - "for old times sake" he said. No dice, at least not this week.

Lovatt was more successful with his request for I've Got a Feeling I'm Falling from the Satch Plays Fats LP. 

A pocket trumpet was produced from amidst the array of instruments and beers behind our immaculately dressed host. One lady told him that she was wearing clean underwear - Rico's carnation seemed to visibly move in his lapel. This was getting to be like a virtual 1960s' concert by Tom Jones. I Want to be Happy was the tune.

Next up was a battle-scarred bugle that looked as if it may have been used, belatedly, to sound the retreat at Balaclava. Rico blew a few bars and recounted a tale from his student days working in Macro.

I Used to Love You was done rather beautifully as was Wrap Your Troubles in Dreams. This was played unaccompanied on flugel rather than with the delicate and effective piano backing from Luca, locked down in Italy.

The show drew to a close with My Monday Date which will, in fact, next be on Friday at 7:00pm.
