This is a good opportunity to say thanks to BSH for their support of the jazz scene in the North East (and beyond) - it's no exaggeration to say that if it wasn't for them many, many fine musicians, bands and projects across a huge cross section of jazz wouldn't be getting reviewed at all, because we're in the "desolate"(!) Reviewers wanted

Whilst BSH attempts to cover as many gigs, festivals and albums as possible, to make the site even more comprehensive we need more 'boots on the ground' to cover the albums seeking review - a large percentage of which never get heard - report on gigs or just to air your views on anything jazz related. Today! Scrum Down with Dr Edis and Dexter’s Gay Gordons!

Sage Gateshead’s concourse café has had a make-over. A temporary artificial rugby pitch is in situ, a TV shows World Cup Rugby matches and live music ‘associated’ with the big event will fit around scrum downs, line-outs and other public school boy shenanigans.
Today, Saturday, Sage Gateshead is determined not to be kicked into touch by the festival of rugby that has, seemingly, gripped Tyneside. A day of music on the concourse will see shameless bandwagon-jumping based on the theory ‘if you can’t beat ‘em’. Dr Paul Edis will lead a bemused group of student musicians in a set of tunes inextricably linked to the day’s warring nations – South Africa and Scotland. The Springbok (tenuous) link? Piano master Abdullah Ibrahim. The Flower of Scotland connection? The Gay Gordons, Dexter Gordon(s)-style! Four o’clock start. This could be a contender for Gig(gle) of the Year!
